Comenius / Sokrates, a school project

In the autumn of 1999 a contact was established between three European schools:
Vidhögeskolan in Veddige, Sweden,
Artur-Becker-Mittelschule in Delitzsch, Germany
and Gimnazjum nr 3 in Ostròw Wielkopolski, Poland.

During a first meeting in Delitzsch, in January 2000, we applied to the "European comission"
for financial help to let teachers and pupils at our schools work together.
In the autumn of 2000, we started our three-year-long project:

"To be young in Europe - to work for a society without violence"

Apart from all written products we have and will continue producing and exchanging,
the pupils have also agreed on a logo to use for the project during these three years. From suggestions, all made by the pupils, we had a vote at each school and the winner-logo(nr 1)
will be our symbol and also be seen on t-shirts in the three schools.
On November 27 2001, all children in Europe who take part in a "Comenius project" will,
at 12 o'clock, send baloons filled with special greetings into the sky.
During this ceremony we will at our three schools, Vidhögeskolan, Artur-Becker-Mittelschule and Gimnazjum nr 3, sing "the European Anthem".
This "Ode to Joy", adapted from the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, was adopted by the Council of Europe in 1972 and has been used by the European Union since 1986.
At a camp in "Bad Düben" outside Delitzsch, where some of our teachers and pupils met in October, we put a text to this hymn, sang it together, and now we can all join in and hope for
peace and understanding between nations.
"Now when we're all together, let us sing the Euro song.
Both in rain and sunny weather, we'll be joyful all day long.
Life is so easy to live
when no one is sad.
Good friends are strong.
Now when we're all together, we'll be joyful all day long."

Except from the financial support we get from "the European Comission" and all help from our headmaster at Vidhögeskolan, we have also got some support from three of our local companies:
Strängbetong, Eson Pac and Verktygsboden.
